Video shows indoctrination and glorification of violence at a civic-military school in Curitiba.

Students are forced to march and chant that they will "enter the favela and leave bodies on the ground."

The APP-Sindicato union released a video this Friday (November 28th) showing  indoctrination  and  incitement to violence  at a civic-military school in Curitiba. Led by a military police officer, teenagers are forced to march and chant that they will "enter the favela and leave bodies on the ground." The name of the school was not disclosed.

For Governor  Ratinho Júnior  (PSD) and  Roni Miranda  (Secretary of Education who wants  teachers to work while sick ), the civic-military schools are a "model." See below the lyrics sung by the students of the school considered a model of education by Ratinho Júnior:

"Man in black, what do you do?"

I do things that scare Satan.

Man in black, what is your mission?

Entering the favela and leaving bodies on the ground.

BOPE has warriors who kill fireworks launchers.

With the knife between his teeth, he skins them whole.

"He kills, he skins, always using his rifle."

“Absurdities like the one in the video are not isolated cases. Since the beginning of this program, we have received and reported  similar and even worse occurrences  in schools that have adopted the civic-military model,” said the president of APP-Sindicato, Walkiria Mazeto. “It is shocking to see that public schools are being used to promote extremist ideological indoctrination that preaches hatred, violence, massacre, and the extermination of marginalized communities.”

The civic-military school program is the target of a  Direct Action of Unconstitutionality  in the Supreme Federal Court (STF), but even so, the government of Paraná has increased the number of militarized establishments. This month, the government announced that 33 more schools will be included in the program.

Out of fear, parents, staff, and teachers at schools reject the civic-military model.
With a new list of institutions that could be militarized, part of the community fears for the future.

Unqualified police officers earn more.

Civic-military schools hire retired military police officers to work as monitors. They earn more than the teachers – according to the APP-Sindicato union, police officers without qualifications to work with students earn R$ 5,500, while the salary of teachers is R$ 4,900. The state has 312 militarized schools.

Update – Seed Note

The State Department of Education (Seed) released a statement this Saturday (29):

The State Department of Education of Paraná (SEED-PR) informs that, upon learning of the video released this Friday (28), it immediately requested information from the school's management and the professionals involved.

This is the first step taken to accurately clarify the circumstances of what happened.

The recorded content does not comply with the guidelines, principles, and orientations of the state education network.

SEED-PR repudiates any manifestation that encourages violence or discrimination and reinforces its commitment to a public education based on respect, inclusion, and the comprehensive protection of students.
