Senate Committee wants Aras to appear to speak on the CPI report
THE SENATE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION (CDH) APPROVED AN INVITATION FOR THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE REPUBLIC AUGUSTO ARAS TO APPEAR AT THE COLLEGIATE BODY TO PROVIDE CLARIFICATIONS ON THE PROGRESS OF THE MEASURES ADOPTED IN RELATION TO COVID'S CPI REPORT.
APPROVED ON OCTOBER 26 BY THE PARLIAMENTARY INQUIRY COMMISSION, THE OPINION, WHICH CALLS FOR THE INDICTMENT OF 77 PEOPLE AND TWO COMPANIES, WAS DELIVERED TO THE PGR THE FOLLOWING DAY. ON THE OCCASION, ARAS SAID THAT THE TEXT WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO GIVING “THE NECESSARY AGILITY” TO ANALYZE “FACTS THAT MAY BE PUNISHABLE, WHETHER CIVILLY, CRIMINALLY OR ADMINISTRATIVELY”.
ACCORDING TO THE REQUEST APPROVED BY THE CDH, BY SENATOR RANDOLFE RODRIGUES (REDE-AP), THE PROCEDURAL LEGISLATION PROVIDES THAT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL HAS 30 DAYS TO ADOPT THE APPROPRIATE MEASURES REGARDING THE CONTENT OF THE CPI REPORT.
AS IT IS AN INVITATION, NOT A SUMMONS, AUGUSTO ARAS IS UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO COMPLY WITH THE SENATORS' REQUEST.
RANDOLFE ALSO DEFENDS THAT THE OPINION “POINTS OUT SEVERAL CRIMINAL FACTS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBLE, SO THAT THE COMPETENT AUTHORITIES ADOPT MEASURES RELATED TO THE DEEPENING OF THE INVESTIGATIONS AND THE DUE CRIMINAL, CIVIL AND ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITY”.
SO FAR, AUGUSTO ARAS HAS NOT PROCEEDED WITH ANY OF THE REQUESTS FOR CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANALYZING CASES OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE PRIVILEGED JURISDICTION.
AMONG THE AUTHORITIES WITH JURISDICTION, COVID'S CPI REPORT CALLS FOR THE INDICTMENT OF PRESIDENT JAIR BOLSONARO FOR NINE DIFFERENT CRIMES, IN ADDITION TO MINISTERS OF STATE, SENATORS AND FEDERAL DEPUTIES. THE PGR CAN MAKE A FORMAL COMPLAINT TO THE FEDERAL SUPREME COURT OR ARCHIVE THE CASES.
