On January 1, 2003, CCTV-9 entered the US cable market as part of an agreement that allowed AOL , Time Warner and News Corporation access to cable systems in Guangzhou . In its early years, CCTV-9 aired English news bulletins and culturally interesting programs most of the day, and it was broadcast mainly during the evening hours in China. One of his biggest projects was covering the Beijing Olympics in 2008 .

Until April 2010, CCTV-9 was a mixed general interest channel featuring news, travel programming and language training. However, on the 26th of that month, CCTV-9 was re-launched as a 24-hour English news service and its name was changed to "CCTV News". [ 3 ]
