Protesters who gathered outside Buckingham Palace were confronted by police

Scuffles broke out and 15 people were arrested during demonstrations by the Anonymous movement at Buckingham Palace and Parliament.

Hundreds of protesters started a fire near the palace and blocked Parliament Square in the Bonfire Night protests.

The demonstrators, many wearing Guy Fawkes masks, were confronted by police, some of them in riot gear.

The protest against austerity cuts, corruption and state surveillance were promoted as #MillionMaskMarch.

Anonymous was due to hold protests around the world, with similar events in Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Linked protests took place in more than a dozen Brazilian cities including Rio de Janeiro, where traffic was brought to a standstill.

Activists also took to the streets in Washington, Philadelphia, Berlin, Madrid, Dublin, Warsaw and Beirut.

Comedian Russell Brand was pictured attending the protest in London, while Green Party MP Caroline Lucas tweeted she had taken part.

Protesters said they planned to burn energy bills as part of the events in London.

Of the 15 arrested in London, three have been charged with public order and assault offences.

A murder inquiry has been launched after a man died after being seriously assaulted on Kenmure Road, in Hackney, last Friday.

Miroslaw Glaza, 50, of no fixed address, died from his injuries yesterday at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, the Met Police said.

BBC Radio 5 live has been given exclusive access to follow the work of London's Metropolitan Police Air Support Unit for two weeks.

Based in north-east London, the unit has three helicopters, which fly for nearly 10 hours a day.

BODY FOUND1622:

Officers appealing for information about the whereabouts of 23-year-old Islington barrister Gianni Sonvico, who has been missing since 25 October, have found a body.

The Met's Marine Policing Unit was called to reports of a body in water at Greenwich Pier at about 10:00. Mr Sonvico's next of kin have been informed and await formal identification.

North Londoners Bombay Bicycle Club say fans expected the unexpected ahead of their release of their fourth album.

Formed as The Canals in Crouch End in London in 2005 when they were teenagers, they eventually settled on Bombay Bicycle Club after a chain of Indian restaurants.

The incident at South Kensington underground station is over, London Fire Brigade has said.

It was smoke coming from underneath a train and no injuries were reported, the brigade added.
TRAVEL1545:

A Tube train's wheels overheated, causing South Kensington station to be evacuated, according to London firefighters at the scene.

Two ambulances, three fire engines and a number of police vehicles are in attendance.
BUS STABBING1536:

The teenager found guilty at the Old Bailey of stabbing to death Derek Boateng, 16, on a bus in north London in April 2013 has been named as 16-year-old Shawn Green, of Romford.

Derek Boateng died on his 16th birthday, a day after being stabbed

Green was sentenced to detention for life and must serve a minimum term of 12 years.

The judge drew attention to the fact the defendant had admitted to carrying the knife around the streets of London for six months before the murder. "Every knife on the street represents a threat to the public," Judge Peter Thornton said.

RIOT DAMAGES ACT 'OVERHAUL'1517:

An independent review has recommended a series of changes to the Riot Damages Act in the wake of the riots that broke out in London and other parts of England in 2011.

It examined compensation arrangements for those caught up in a riot. It was commissioned by the home secretary and will go out to consultation.
INJURED DOG1505:

A Metropolitan Police dog has made a full recovery after being struck around the head with a metal baton during an incident in south-east London on Wednesday.

Fuzz, a five-year-old German shepherd, who was attacked as he helped detain a suspected armed robber in Downham, is now back on the beat, the Met said.
TRAVEL1457:

London Fire Brigade says it was called to South Kensington station at 14:37 after reports of "smoke issuing".

The station has been evacuated and there are no trains stopping there on the Circle Line. The District Line has been suspended between Gloucester Road and Embankment.
WALLABY DIES1450:

A wallaby that was roaming around north London before being captured on a tennis court has died.

After the animal was caught in the Dartmouth Park area last week, it was taken to a centre near Heathrow where it was found to have a broken foot. The RSPCA said after the operation to fix it, the wallaby could not be revived from the anaesthesia.

A teenager has been found guilty at the Old Bailey of stabbing to death Derek Boateng, 16, on a bus in north London in April 2013.

SPYING TRIO GUILTY1417:

Three men have admitted spying on West Ham United during the bidding process for the Olympic Stadium.

Richard Forrest, Lee Stewart and Howard Hill admitted illegally obtaining confidential information from the football club and Olympic Park Legacy Company at Inner London Crown Court. They were arrested after claims Tottenham Hotspur had spied on Olympic officials, which the club denied.

The three men will be sentenced on 20 December.
LORD MAYOR'S SHOW1407:

More than 2,000 armed forces regulars, reserves and cadets will take part in the Lord Mayor's Show tomorrow, the Ministry of Defence has said.

The annual three-hour procession will mark the appointment of the new Lord Mayor of London, Fiona Woolf.

A derelict east London hospital, empty for 16 years, is set to be given a new lease of life after receiving planning permission for a developmentthat will provide 188 new homes.

A competition has been launched by the Landscape Institute to find innovative design proposals that would transform the Royal Docks into a multi-functional, liveable space.

Barbara Fari, who exaggerated an injury in a bid to claim £750,000 compensation from a housing organisation, has been given a three-month jail sentence at London's High Court.

Fari, 59, lied to housing group Homes for Haringey about how badly hurt she was tripping on uneven paving. Her sentence has been stayed pending any appeal being brought.
